A reading of H.P. Lovecraft's Fungi from Yuggoth, set to music. Written in a short period between 1929-1930, Lovecraft's sonnet cycle of 36 poems express his own unique visions of horror and wonder in a succint and atmospheric style. In the Innsmouth House Press edition of this work, HPL's poetry is read by Paul Maclean and set to specially composed music by Allicorn. The recording also comes with a 25 page booklet which includes the sonnets themselves, a brief history of Fungi from Yuggoth, footnotes on select poems and an introduction by Lovecraftian author, W.H. Pugmire. Length: 67 minutes "There have been some excellent readings of the sonnets, but none surpass these superb renditions by Paul Maclean. The British voice is a perfect vehicle for the speaking of poetry, and Maclean's voice has a haunted quality that perfectly expresses the mystic and dark wonder of these sonnets. I have listened to this outstanding recording numerous times -- it haunts my torturous dreams..." W.H. Pugmire |
